Where tracked machines earn their premium

Tracks add 25% to 45% to the purchase price, and track replacement is a real ongoing cost. They make sense when:

• Your sites are consistently soft, muddy or sandy
• You work through a rainy season and cannot afford downtime
• You cross finished surfaces where wheel rutting would cause damage
• You operate on slopes where wheeled machines lose traction
• You work in landscaping, forestry or on sensitive ground

If none of those apply — if your work is on hard, dry, paved ground — a wheeled machine will do the same job for less money and cost less to run.

Track maintenance: what to expect

Tracks are a wear item. Their lifespan depends heavily on ground conditions and operating practice:

• Working on abrasive ground (crushed rock, gravel) wears tracks fastest
• Turning on hard surfaces accelerates wear significantly — minimise tight turns on concrete
• Correct tension is critical — too loose causes derailment, too tight accelerates wear
• Rubber tracks typically last longest on mixed ground with moderate abrasion

Ask us about track replacement lead times and cost for your market before you buy. It is a predictable expense and should be in your ownership cost calculation from day one.
