Trencher Attachment for Skid Steer Loaders

A trencher cuts clean, uniform trenches for irrigation, drainage, cabling and utilities — far faster than excavating with a bucket and far cheaper than a dedicated trencher machine.

What it is used for

How to choose a trencher

Trenching speed comes from a balance of chain width, tooth pattern, and hydraulic flow. A trencher that is pushed beyond its rated flow will bog down and stall, particularly in wet clay.

Common questions

Can a trencher cut through rock? It can cut weathered rock and compacted ground. Solid rock usually requires a rock saw or breaker instead.

How do I avoid chain stretch? Keep the chain tensioned to spec, grease the boom bearing on schedule, and do not reverse the chain under load.

Specification considerations

Chain width determines trench dimensions, and cutting depth varies by model. Ground conditions matter too — rocky or highly compacted ground requires more machine power and may slow progress significantly.

Attachment system compatibility

All our attachments use the universal quick-attach mounting plate, with standard hydraulic quick couplers — compatible with widely available attachment brands. See our attachments overview for the full range and compatibility guidance.
